Googlereading (my new word, since my switch from netwibes) Techcrunch today, I’ve read and surfed on Zink Technology.

First, the company name is awesome. Zink couldn’t be more hype or web 2.0, although it has nearly nothing to do with Web technology. But going from Zero Ink to Zink gives you one of the possible way to find your next company name. For example, in my work, we would concatenate and abbreviate Film Less, which would result in Fess. Hum … doesn’t work for every business.

Second, what is Zink? Zink is a breakthrough technology that produces on-demand color images and photos – without ink, ribbons or toner.

The key to this process is the patented ZINK paper, an advanced composite material with dye crystals embedded inside and a protective polymer overcoat layer outside. ZINK paper is durable, colorful, and affordable.

Before printing, the embedded dye crystals are colorless, so ZINK paper looks like regular white photo paper. The ZINK printer uses heat to activate and colorize these dye crystals. The printing process is now radically simple. Just add paper and press « print ». The result is high quality, long-lasting, durable, and affordable images.

So the real question is: How much per page?
